The Cavachon is a mixed breed between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise. They are also known as a Cavalier-Bichon, or a Bichon-King Charles, and were first bred in North America in the 1990s. The Cavachon is charming and easygoing and would do well in any home, especially for first time dog owners. They just need to have lots of love and attention shed upon them. Cavachons are highly sensitive and do not like to be left alone, or they could develop separation anxiety. Due to the breed’s gentle and easygoing personality they are often used as emotional support and therapy dogs. They are playful and friendly which enables them to get along well with children, pets, and even strangers. However, they may bark at strangers if they have not been socialized at a young age. Cavachons are a small size breed and could be injured when playing with children, so supervision is necessary. They are a low shedder, and their cream, white, or multicolored coat could be curly, straight, or wavy. They are easy to groom but do need to be brushed 3-4 times a week. Also, due to being part Cavalier King Charles Spaniel the Cavachon may chase small animals. The breed does have a propensity to put on weight so exercise and playtime are important. They are typically 12-13 inches high and generally weigh between 15-35 pounds. Due to being a small size breed they have a susceptibility to dental problems, so it is important to brush their teeth daily. They also have a tendency to develop tear stains under their eyes, so daily wiping with a damp cloth would be needed. Their ears also need to be kept clean to avoid any infection. Keeping routine veterinary visits as well as maintaining proper grooming and health would ensure a long and happy life for your Cavachon. Each dog breed can be prone to develop certain diseases or conditions, be sure to research your specific breed before making a purchase to ensure you´re prepared for any challenges that may arise.
