Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are extremely popular and recognizable dogs, and their friendly and charming personality combined with their intelligents makes it easy to see why so many people love these dogs. They are so naturally talented and athletic that they are commonly used in different work environments such as law enforcement, or as service dogs, as well as competitions. Golden Retrievers adapt well to almost any environment, and fit right in with any family they are a part of. They bond well with their owners and will become very loyal and protective of those that they love. These dogs are some of the friendliest out there, and typically know no stranger. Whether playing with kids, or socializing with other dogs, a well trained Golden Retriever will be friendly and love affection from just about anyone. Their intelligence and desire to please their owners makes them fairly easy dogs to train. Golden Retrievers will love an environment where they get lots of attention, as they do not tolerate being left alone. Their high energy level and playfulness means they need lots of attention and do best when they are regularly played with and exercised. These dogs are incredible pets and have a goofy personality, often keeping their puppy-like traits until an old age. Their physical and mental needs necessitate that they be inside with their families where they can receive lots of affection.

Golden Retrievers have long, golden hair, and can grow to weigh between 55 to 75 pounds, and be 21 to 24 inches tall. Although these dogs are relatively large, and may bark when someone comes, they are not considered good watch dogs because of how friendly they are to everyone. They also require care and grooming to maintain their beautiful coats. Golden Retrievers shed profusely and require lots of brushing to keep their fur healthy and from matting or getting all over the house. Considered “mouthy” dogs, they will love to be chewing something and giving them plenty of toys to play with will help this not turn into a bad habit and destructive behavior.
